KOUE BOKKEVELD TRAINING CENTER
DEAR FEBRUARY
Dear reader. You are special. You are loved. Believe it! We hope everyone experienced a lot of love during the month of love.
February was busy. There were "highs" and there were "lows". Good luck to all the producers who were hit by the hailstorm. We believe and trust that there will be a prosperous season in the future.
BRAND NEW projects are coming. Be a part. Sign up. Don't miss out!
PICKER EVALUATIONS: OBSERVATIONS AND TRENDS
During the recent picker evaluation sessions, several important trends were identified that require attention.

Observations by pickers
  • Nails too long: This leads to visible nail marks on picked fruit.
  • Stems off: Fruit is often picked without stems due to haste.
  • Overfilled picking bags: Pickers overfill bags, probably to fill crates faster.
  • Haste: Leads to picking spurs and leaves along with the fruit.
Observations by supervisors
  • Lack of attention: Detail is not sufficiently observed.
  • Absence: Some supervisors do not actively move between pickers.
  • Insufficient intervention: Errors are not corrected or addressed.
  • General passivity: Some supervisors are not “awake” enough during the process.

Final Thought
The observations during the picker evaluations clearly show that the quality of the harvest depends not only on the skills of the pickers, but also on the active involvement of the supervisors.

Supervisors are the first line of control to ensure that fruit is picked correctly – without nail marks, stems, leaves and spores.

When supervisors are attentive and present, they can intervene immediately and correct incorrect practices.

An alert supervisor sets the pace and standard of the team. Their presence promotes responsibility and reduces haste.

By actively moving between pickers and providing feedback, the productivity of the team is increased.

NEW YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME IN COLLABORATION WITH SCATEC
We are delighted to announce that we have received funding from Scatec to offer unemployed youth the opportunity to complete a full learnership.

The programme will be rolled out according to the tried and tested 1,2,3 Work model that we have successfully offered over the past few years. Students will attend theory classes one day a week and gain four days of practical work experience on a farm. This year’s classes will take place in Op-die-Berg.

The interest has exceeded our expectations and confirms that our youth are actively seeking opportunities to empower themselves. We have already sent placement requests to farms to accommodate students. If you have not received such a request, but are willing to give students the opportunity to gain practical experience on your farm, we invite you to get in touch with us.

We aim to start classes as soon as all students have been placed. This program is a valuable investment in the future of our youth and we look forward to the positive impact it will have on the community.

GR. 9-12 DEVELOPMENT CAMP 2026

An investment in your child's future.

As parents, we all want the same thing: that our children will have strong values, make wise decisions and walk their way in the world with confidence.
Our Development Camp is specifically designed to support parents in this – to help build your teenager's character, resilience and future-orientedness with you.
Teenage years bring unique challenges. That's why we create a structured, safe space where learners are guided by experienced facilitators and where honest conversations can be held about themes that really matter.

What your child receives during the camp:

  • Resilience against peer pressure and substance abuse.
  • Practical tools to make independent and responsible decisions.
  • Online safety and social media awareness.
  • Guidelines to protect themselves and others.
  • Character and leadership development.
  • Discipline, respect and personal responsibility.
  • Healthy relationships and value-driven choices.
  • Age-appropriate, honest conversations about important life issues.
  • Career orientation and goal setting.
  • Help your child discover their strengths and find direction for the future.

We believe parenting is a team effort. This camp is not a substitute for your guidance – it is a support for it.
